Assessing the effectiveness of a menstrual hygiene management and sexual and reproductive health education program in post-earthquake Nepal

To address gap in knowledge of menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and sexual and reproductive health (SRH), Nepal Fertility Care Center (NFCC), Government of Nepal and GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) developed a curriculum to be taught in schools to girls in grades 7-9 after the 2015 earthquake.

The researchers tested the girl’s knowledge before and after the program implementation. The curriculum improved the girl’s knowledge, however, the improvement varied across topics. The authors suggest that the curriculum should be administered in schools before a disaster so that the girls have accurate information about in the event of another disaster.
