In this September 2024 edition of our newsletter, we bring you a rich and diverse array of news, key updates, and events from GWC CAST, National Coordination Platforms (NCPs), GWC members and partners such as SaniHub, GTFCC, UNICEF, OXFAM, and the Triple Nexus Initiative.
On 14 August 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the multi-country outbreak and current upsurge of mpox clade 1b a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO). The Global Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (SPRP) for mpox, covering the six-month period from September 2024 to February 2025, provides a framework for public health preparedness and response to the mpox emergency. The SPRP was developed with Member State's and partners' input and outlined the urgent actions needed at global, regional, and national levels.
As water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) play a key role in the humanitarian response and in collaborating with public health authorities, we provide you in this update the key mpox and humanitarian WASH response resources that were reviewed and gathered by the GWC with support from its partners, and in particular, the GWC Hygiene Promotion Working Group.
Other highlights in this update:
- New GWC resources for WASH Practitioners on mpox
