The Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh brought to prominence a range of gaps in WASH service delivery relating to faecal sludge management. GWC partners agreed to a 5 year plan to improve sector approaches, tools and capacities to tackling faecal sludge management in emergency responses. The plan focuses on improving knowledge management and knowledge sharing to allow stronger technical support. The FSM working group have devised a 7 point plan for 2020/21 including:
  1. FSM standards – eventually as a compliment to SPHERE and using the same participative approach
  2. FSM coordination – for the TWG and in the field
  3. Capacity development – identification of skills, experts and curricula
  4. Evidence / experience – building repository of case studies and guidance
  5. Advocacy for FSM
  6. Assessment and data for early decision making
  7. Knowledge management – developing a library and processes
The FSM working group workplan will be reviewed on an annual basis and the GWC SAG will oversee for relevance and continuity.
